LAHORE: Preparations have been finalised to accord a warm welcome to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on his arrival in Lahore.
A large number of banners to show solidarity with Nawaz Sharif have been placed across the city ahead of his arrival.
Welcome camps have been set up from Shahdara to Data Darbar, while emotionally charged PML-N workers and supporters will welcome their leader at the Babu Sabu Interchange and take him to Darbar Data Ganj Bukhsh in the shape of a procession, where he will address a rally in front of the shrine.
The police have beefed up the security to protect the participants of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's rally in the provincial capital.
According to police, proper security measures have been taken to ensure law and order.
The personnel of Elite Force have been deployed for protection of the rally.
Special contingents of commandos and police officials also deployed on sensitive points.
The City Traffic police also prepared a comprehensivetraffic plan to ensure smooth traffic flow in city.
As per the plan, four SPs, 20 DSPs, 70 inspectors and over 2,000 wardens will perform duty.
The former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, on the fourth day of his journey to Lahore via GT Road, has promised his supporters he would never betray them.
Addressing the gathering upon his arrival in Muridke on Saturday, Nawaz reiterated his position on being disqualified for not having taken salary from his son's company.
Earlier, Sharif left Gujranwala for Lahore on Saturday afternoon, continuing his homecoming journey in the shape of massive rally.
The rally at Muridke was warmly welcomed by a large number of the PML-N workers and supporters.
The former PM's cavalcade made its first stopover at Kamoke, as eager supporters gathered on the route in hundreds to greet him.
Preparations to welcome the ousted prime minister in Lahore were in full swing, as locals decorated Shahdara Chowk and other venues with posters and banners of Nawaz Sharif.
Ravi Road, all the way from Shahdara to Daata Darbar, was closed to traffic from 9am onwards ahead of Nawaz’s arrival.
PML-N workers and supporters set up stages in different areas of the city as part of the preparations to greet the former PM.
Day Three in Gujranwala:
Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that conspiracies were being hatched against his government for the last three-and-a-half years, and pledged to make Pakistan a great country.
“If you agree and keep your promise, we will change the country’s destiny,” he told a big gathering in Gujranwala on day three of his rally.
Nawaz said he had presented his case in the court of people, as they had made him the prime minister. He said he would like to face the conspiracies instead of sitting calmly at home. He asked the charged crowd to wait for his call for launching a struggle to make Pakistan a great country.
Nawaz asked the people, “I don’t expect you to reinstate me, but I want you to support me for the betterment of this country.”
He asked the crowd whether they would stand with the oppressed, and people replied in affirmative.
He asked the gathering to promise him that they would join him when he would give a call for the purpose. He said until the mandate of the people was respected, Pakistan couldn’t make progress.
“We will have to make sure that the mandate of the people is respected in future; we have to make sure no conspiracy against an elected prime minister succeeds now.”
